14:39Terttu NevalainenDear Sirpa, our warmest congratulations on this milestone day in your academic career! We are looking forward to seeing you in person soon and raising a toast in your honour. Lots of love from the Helsinki contingent of VARIENG!

14:50Pentti HaddingtonDear Sirpa. Thank you for the wonderful lecture and the glance into your important work. Thank you for the support you have provided through the years. Thank you also for all those precious moments where we have been able to share ideas, discuss research and teach together. It has been such a joy and pleasure; I’ve learned so much, not least about what it means be a supportive colleague! I remember when I met you for the first time in Oulu sometime in the spring of 2001 in some seminar. I had just started as a PhD researcher in Langnet, the Graduate School for Language Studies. The seminar participants were having lunch and we were sitting next to each other. You said that you found my research plan interesting. Those words - from a senior and established researcher – meant a lot! Another important highlight was the possibility to co-teach the course English in Finland some years ago. We were pioneers in remote and hybrid teaching! I wish I was now there to give you big big hug and share a smile, but a virtual hug will have to suffice! I wish you wonderful days of retirement! Greetings from everybody in Oulu and see you soon! Pentti Haddington, Professor of English Language and Interaction, University of Oulu

Warmest thanks to Sirpa for all our years together. Very grateful for the opportunity to be involved in all the projects that Sirpa has guided us through in her talk. I have learnt and got so much from our time together in the academia.

Thank you also for the opportunity to be part of your group c. 10-15 years ago. It was such a wonderful time being exposed to new ideas and new ways of working. All the best to you all in Jyväskylä and greetings from Joensuu! Mikko Laitinen (PS. I was invited to write a handbook article of “English in Finland”, so I’ll be approaching you for comments before I submit it ;) )

15:02Leena KuureOulusta lämpimät kiitokset ja onnittelut Sirpalle, monipuoliselle, innovatiiviselle ja innostavalle akateemiselle asiantuntijalle - tutkijalle ja pedagogille - uuden etapin johdosta!
